Touristinfo Centre adds air & cruise desk to meet the needs of tourists
by Anonymous

Vancouver, BC May 20, 2004 -- In an effort to meet visitor needs and fulfill an organizational mandate of extending visitors length of stay, Tourism Vancouver, in partnership Uniglobe Advance Travel, has added a full-service air and cruise travel desk to their Burrard Street Touristinfo Centre. The desk adds yet another service to the centre that benefits both visitors and members alike.

"Plenty of visitors come to Vancouver to board a cruise, and once they arrive, they wish they had planned on spending more time here," noted Terry Bubb, Tourism Vancouver's Chair. "The new Uniglobe Advance Travel service allows those visitors to change their travel arrangements on the spot, while allowing us to maximize the amount of time they spend in our city. That ultimately benefits all sectors of our industry through increased spending," he added.

The need for the new service which opened on May 3rd, was based on feedback from visitors to the centre who have found it difficult to change flight reservations since most airlines have closed their downtown offices in recent years. The desk is also expected to attract business from those attending conferences at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre, located opposite the Touristinfo Centre.

Established in 1986 Uniglobe Advance Travel is a full service travel management company providing travel services to corporations, leisure travellers and convention delegates. "Uniglobe Advance Travel is delighted to expand our partnership with Tourism Vancouver by operating a full-service travel agency location at the Touristinfo Centre," noted Gayle Porter, Vice President Agency Development. "This new location reflects a truly one-stop service option for visitors and local residents requiring professional travel consulting services."

Visitors to the Burrard Street Touristinfo Centre will now be able to change flights and make last minute cruise reservations in addition to the current range of services offered, such as currency exchange, hotel room bookings, tickets to attractions and tours, and the Tickets Tonight booth - Vancouver's exclusive outlet for half-price show tickets. Uniglobe Advance is the newest addition to Tourism Vancouver's Corporate Sponsorship program, together with Visa, the Vancouver Sun and Province, Metropolitan Fine Printers, and EasyPark. Tourism Vancouver's sponsorship program provides the opportunity for targeted integration into the Vancouver tourism industry and community.

Tourism Vancouver's focus is on building exceptional customer relationships with meeting planners, travel influencers, travel media and independent tourists. Our efforts generate demand for the destination, thereby creating value for members and stakeholders. Innovation, partnership, research and accountability guide our approach. We utilize person-to-person and technology-based sales, marketing and visitor servicing activities to achieve results. Through positive positioning of both the organization and the destination, our leadership benefits the society, culture, environment and economy of Greater Vancouver.
